My feedbacks on Guam Photography video: A7RII vs Fujifilm XPro2 (A7RII và SAL 24-70mm f/2.8 có cho ra ảnh sharp không)

Today I have just viewed a review video clip SONY A7R II vs FujiFilm X-Pro2 from Guam Photography. He compare between the two cameras by shooting a model, you can see full size post edited photos here

This passage below is for Vietnamese, people.

His gears are

  • Sony A7RII + LA-EA3 + Zeiss 24-70 f/2.8
  • Fujifilm XPro 2 + FujiFilm 16-55 f/2.8

The fuji lens is one of the best lens for Fujifilm camera, however, the Zeiss 24-70mm is the best lens for A-Mount camera, not E-Mount camera. However, as a A-mount / E-mount user, I do confirm that the Zeiss 24-70mm f/2.8 is also good for Sony A7Rii and LA-EA3 doesn’t impacts to photo quality.

In his videos, Fuji photos are sharper than Sony photos (most of the time), even better in low light condition.

His video leads to some conclusions (from most of viewers):

  • The X-PRO2 makes sharper image than what the A7RII can produce. So A7RII is somewhat like a shit, people should move away from Sony A7 line.
  • The A-mount lenses and LE-EA3 are the main reason that make A7RII’s photos are not sharp enough. Guam photography should try the 24-70mm GM.

I left a comment on his youtube video that his 24-70mm f/2.8 lens may be a bad copy and he agreed with me. However, I want to write this article to correct the myth of A7RII image quality. To me, A7RII sensor is superb, and when combining with the A-mount Zeiss 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, the image quality is still very good. I will show you some photos that I took when I went around. All photos were applied Adobe Lightroom default correction, I just make the photos brighter or crop them a little bit. No sharpen technique was used.

As you see, all photos above are sharp at even with high ISO (2500, 2000) the photos are sharp as well. So, there no way to say that the A7RII is not good or not as good as the X-Pro 2.

To be fair, I’ve used my friend FujiFilm X-Pro 2, I was impressed. At that moment, I thought that if I couldn’t buy a Sony A7RII, I would by a X-Pro 2.

For whom who consider to buy an A-mount Zeiss 24-70mm f/2.8, you should know that it’s a very good lens. But when you buy an old lens, you should test it before buying it. If it’s not sharp, it’s a bad copy.

Happy shooting!
